The luck of a champion is that “extra” that a team needs to win championships. Ability and skill is never enough. Sometimes it seems like a team has no possibility but ends up winning the championship.

This weekend we experienced the UEFA Champions League final between Bayern Munchen and Chelsea. Bayern controlled the match from the beginning and seemed the clear winner. However, they were only able to score one goal. Chelsea had not even had a shot on goal or a corner kick when on their first corner kick, Chelsea forward Didier Drogba scored the tying goal at the 84th minute.
This was their only shot on target and it ended in the back of the net. The match went into extra time and there, Chelsea experienced the luck of a champion.
Chelsea goalie Peter Cech blocked Arjen Robben’s penalty kick that would have been the winner for Bayern. At that moment it wasclear that Chelsea was going to be the winner, since only a champion experiences that type of luck.
Call it luck or destiny, there are outside factors that are necessary to win championships.
